NSW Community Care Support Program Overview

The aim of the NSW Community Care Support Program (CCSP) is to enhance the independence, security and quality of life of younger people (under 65 years of age, or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people under 50 years of age) with disabilities or a carer to such a person identified as being ‘at risk’ of premature admission to residential care.

Overall, the NSW CCSP achieves its aim by working toward the following outcomes:

  • To provide a comprehensive, coordinated and integrated range of basic maintenance and support services for younger people with a disability and their carers
  • To support these people to be more independent at home and in the community, thereby enhancing quality of life
  • To enable these people to understand and focus on their individual needs and achieve their goals
  • To decrease the risk of, and prevent inappropriate admission to, long term residential care
  • To provide flexible, timely services that respond to the needs of younger people with a disability and their carers.

Our Lady of Consolation’s NSW Community Care Support Program includes things like lawn mowing, linen cleaning and delivery, and home maintenance and modification.

Who is Eligible for the NSW Community Care Support Program Services

To be eligible for a NSW Community Care Support Program service you must be:

  • a younger person, (under 65 years of age or be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person under 50 years of age)
  • and have a moderate, severe or profound disability or be caring for someone with the disability.
  • and require basic maintenance and support services;
  • and are at risk of premature admission to long term residential care

NSW Community Care Support Program services can be provided to eligible people who live in:

  • their own homes. This includes privately owned properties, rental properties, caravan parks, Aboriginal Land Council properties and social housing (public housing, Aboriginal Housing Office properties and community housing)
  • boarding houses
  • people in unstable housing circumstances (such as transient or homeless people).

People with a disability who already receive an equivalent service through another program are not eligible to receive a NSW Community Care Support Program service.

Our Lady of Consolation is responsible for developing a priority based waiting list to manage the allocation of available resources.

Demand for a service may outstrip available resources. Where demand for a service exceeds supply, OLOC will always allocate resources in a way that provides the most benefit to the greatest number of people. We use certain criteria to assist in determining the priority of one request over another. This will be determined through the application process.

Paying For Your Community Care Support Program Services

NSW Community Care Support Program services are not free or entitlement services, and people who have been assessed as eligible to receive the service and having capacity to pay may be charged fees.

OLOC’s fees policy is based on the ‘Principles for the Setting of Fees’ outlined in the NSW Government’s Guidelines for NSW Community Care Support Program services. This policy takes into account the level of income and amount of services used by people in considering their capacity to pay. The policy acknowledges that the majority of people using NSW Community Care Support Program services are dependent upon some form of income support.

Our staff will ask you to provide a range of information on your income status and based on the type and amount of services required will make an assessment on the appropriate fees to be charged. If your personal circumstances allow, you will be expected to contribute to the cost of the CCSP service.

Our friendly staff will discuss our fees policy and assessment with you in advance in plain English, giving you the opportunity to clarify any concerns before any services are provided.

We offer a range of payment options that we can tailor to meet your financial circumstances to ensure we deliver the CCSP service at an affordable fee.
