Recent announcement of new CEO

I am following up with staff after the Board’s recent announcement that David Maher will be the new CEO at Our Lady of Consolation.  I can reassure people that David is a capable, very experienced manager and I expect that he will be a good fit for our organisation.

I want to acknowledge the really nice feedback that I have had since the announcement. We have had our ups and downs with Covid, but in residential and community care settings we battled through, largely because our management and our staff were really brave and sometimes really clever.  And when we weren’t ducking Covid, together we managed to achieve quite a bit. We renovated all the residential care buildings, we more than doubled the size of our home care services, we made allied health and reablement a major focus across all our services, and we now provide affordable rental housing for 99 people as part of the services we offer at Toongabbie.  We could only have done this because we have had a supportive Board, who were prepared to consider and invest in new ideas.

But when I look in the mirror these days, I see an older man looking back at me, and it is time to move aside and let someone else come in to continue the good work at OLOC.  David will start work on Monday 8 April and he and I will have a week’s handover before I finish up on Friday 12 April. We plan to have a breakfast barbeque on the Thursday 11 April, in that last week, when I can catch up with people to say goodbye, and staff can meet David. It will be on the lawn next to the Admin building, and I hope lots of people can make it.

Best wishes
