Community Outreach and International Links

As an extension of our Franciscan heritage we have been expanding our services and resources to help disadvantaged and elderly people in our wider community, both locally and internationally.

Western Sydney Initiatives

Since 2008 Our Lady of Consolation has been involved in community building in the Mt Druitt area, using our own funds to provide support to older people living in the community.

We have been providing a fortnightly shopping bus service to allow older people easier access to the Westfield shopping centre at Mt Druitt. We have also been very involved in facilitating social bus trips from Willmot and Shalvey.

Partnership with the Older Women’s Network

Since 2010, we have supported the Blacktown District Older Women’s Network by funding health and wellbeing programs for older women in the Blacktown local government area.

International Links

Our Lady of Consolation has a strong links with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM) in India.

The FMM order was formed in India over 130 years ago and has since been working to improve the quality of life of people living in very difficult conditions.

Since 2009 we have taken a special interest in the work of the FMM in India, where Hélène de Chappotin began this religious order. We have provided some financial support to a number of programs that aim to empower poorer women and children. Our current project is one that supports people living with HIV/AIDS and their children.
